Information About Being A Certified Nurse Assistant
If you have ever thought you may wish to have a career in the health care industry, then you surely know about doctors, nurses, psychologists and the like. If you are truly gun-ho on becoming a medical professional, then you understand you have to start your way on the bottom, and work your way up.
That means you will must become a licensed CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Now I'm sure if you have done your homework you already understand the requirements for becoming a CNA, the licensing fees, the programs you need to go to, the protocols you need to follow etc. There is a seemingly countless amount of information out there, and it can be tough at times to find what you want or need.
However, in the pages upon pages of info you have looked through, you probably did not find the most pertinent information on becoming a CNA.. Which is.. What exactly are the responsibilities of a CNA?
For starters, CNA's are the lowest members of the medical profession. This does NOT imply they are the least important! In opposition, during your time as a CNA you will provide essential assistants to the doctors and nurses above you, so everything may run smoothly. If not because of the effort of CNAs around the country, several nursing homes, and many other assisted living facilities, would no longer be possible, and many many elderly people would be without having recourse, and no one to care for them and make sure they were fine. CNAs are also found many times in our schools as acting nurses, helping our children with their health issues.
The real responsibilities of a CNA will differ greatly from state to state, but there is an overall outline you can expect to follow. You can expect that during your time as a CNA you will be accountable for the following things:
Day to Day Patient Care:
Your first and primary duty as a CNA, is the daily care of patients under your attention. This will include, but may not be limited to, these tasks; feeding the patient, preparing menus for the patient, getting the patient dressed each morning and undressed at night, changing the bedpan for the patient, assisting the patient in showering, or preparing to go out on a trip, preparing exercise programs, assisting during the exercise programs, taking the vital signs of the patient, and even measuring out and giving patients their medications (this last one will differ greatly on the state you are in and the requirements you needed to be a CNA to start with. )
Record Keeping:
The second most essential responsibility you will have as a CNA is keeping good records and files. You absolutely must adhere to the guidelines given to you during your training, so that the doctor, other nurses, and other CNAs can effectively take care of the patient once your shift has ended and it is time for you to go home.
